Crystal Springer: Bringing Nature to Life Through Whimsy and Color
Finding Inspiration in the Natural World
Crystal Springer's journey as an artist didn't begin in a classroom—it began with curiosity.
Growing up in a small town in Iowa, Crystal was always drawn to the beauty of nature, patterns, and the emotions that connect us to the world around us. Although she explored art in school, she ultimately pursued a career in accounting, believing creativity would remain a lifelong hobby.
Over time, however, painting became something much more. Entirely self-taught, Crystal developed her artistic voice through curiosity, experimentation, and countless hours of practice. Rather than striving for perfection, she discovered that creating art was her way of processing life, telling stories, and expressing emotions that words often cannot.
Today, as a Tennessee-based acrylic and mixed media artist, Crystal transforms animals and elements of nature into vibrant, whimsical works of art. Every painting celebrates the unique personality and symbolism of its subject, inviting viewers to slow down, connect with nature, and discover a meaningful story within each piece.
Sharing Her Art Across Middle Tennessee
Crystal's work has been featured throughout Middle Tennessee, including Church Street Gallery in Murfreesboro, Trellis and Vine in Smyrna, The Boro Art Crawl, The Greenway Art Festival, Crying Cats Bookstore, and The Laboratory Smoke Shop. She is also an active member of the Stones River Craft Association, where she enjoys connecting with fellow artists and continuing to grow her creative career.
Each new exhibition allows Crystal to share not only her artwork, but also the stories and emotions behind each piece, helping others connect with the wonder and symbolism found throughout nature.
In addition to her original artwork, Crystal also accepts commissioned pieces and custom pet portraits, creating one-of-a-kind paintings that celebrate beloved pets and meaningful moments through her signature whimsical style.
Encouraging the Next Generation of Artists
Crystal is passionate about encouraging others to embrace their creativity. Her advice for aspiring artists is simple but meaningful:
"Keep practicing, and if you have a passion for it, you will develop it."
She believes artistic growth comes from consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to keep creating.
If given the opportunity to host a community event, Crystal would love to organize paint parties where people of all ages and skill levels can relax, express themselves, and discover the joy of creating art together.
Creating with Purpose
For Crystal, art is about much more than creating beautiful paintings—it's about creating connection.
She believes every piece carries its own energy and has the ability to bring joy, comfort, or inspiration to someone else's life. The process of painting allows her to be fully present, while sharing her work gives that experience an even greater purpose.
"My purpose is to share what already flows through me naturally," Crystal says. "When it connects with someone else, that's the most fulfilling feeling."
Whether she's painting whimsical wildlife, creating a treasured pet portrait, or leading others through a paint party, Crystal hopes her work encourages people to embrace creativity, find beauty in the natural world, and experience a little more joy in their everyday lives.
As Smyrna's creative community continues to grow, artists like Crystal help make it a more colorful, inspiring place to live. Through every brushstroke, she reminds us that art has the power to tell stories, spark imagination, and bring people together.
